After you have completed the migration procedure from one server to another, the last step is to change the nameservers.
With the nameserver propagation, emails will be redirected to the new server. The propagation of the nameserver can take from 1-2 hours to 48 hours and in this interval it is possible that some of the emails sent to your domain arrive on the new email server and others on the old server. To avoid this situation there are two possible solutions:
- before changing the nameserver, create a mail redirection that will forward all incoming emails (from the domain to be moved) to another domain owned by you
- check the emails received on the old server using the Webmail interface and if necessary redirect them to the new server, after the nameserver propagation; make sure you have a temporary URL/IP to access emails from the old server.
If you are using another DNS records management platform, we recommend that before you change the nameserver to make sure that the MX records are correct.
