Domain validation means that the applicant must prove to the Certification Authority that he has control over the domain for which the SSL certificate is to be issued.

The Certification Authority will send an email to a generic email address (admin@ webmaster@) in the domain for which the SSL certificate is to be issued. If the applicant can receive and confirm the email, the Certification Authority will issue the SSL certificate.
