In a forced resemblance, DNS can be considered a phone book, each name having a telephone number associated with it. When you move to a new location, your phone number will probably be changed. To assign the new phone number to your name, you must call the telephone service provider who will make the change.
DNS stands for "Domain Name Server". DNS acts as a huge phone book (database), associating each domain with an IP. When you type in the browser www.hostx.ro, your ISP will ask the DNS server how to contact hostx.ro. The DNS server will return the IP of the server hosting the hostx.ro domain (or, in the above interpretation, the phone number of the server).
