Setting up an external SMTP server to send emails from your Magento store can be done by following the steps below:

  1. Log in to the Magento administration panel - click on System -> Configuration
  2. In the Advanced section of the menu on the left, click on System
  3. Select Mail Sending Settings
  4. Fill in the data of the email server (in cPanel - Email -> Email Accounts -> Set Up email Account -> find the data for the SMTP sending server with or without SSL)
  5. Click Save Config
