- make a backup of the site you are going to work on (files and database)
- install Migrator component (https://joomlacode.org/gf/project/pasamioprojects/frs/?action=FrsReleaseBrowse&frs_package_id=2588)
- go to the administration section >> Components >> Migrator
- create a SQL Migration File (Create Migration SQL File)
- save file (Download)
- install the latest Joomla version in a separate folder (eg. test); after uploading the files to the server load the .sql file in the same folder
- go to http://yourwebsite.ro/test
- the installation process will start, specify the language and data access to a database (new)
- in step 6 select "Load Migration Script"; the Old Table Prefix write "_jos"
- Check "This script is a Joomla! 1.0 migration script" by clicking "Upload and execute"
- delete the installation folder
- it is important to remember that extensions (plugins, components, themes) in Joomla 1.0 will NOT be imported
