It's important to reboot your dedicated server once in a month to install kernel updates and increase server performance. You'll need to reboot your dedicated server every time you install an update or a patch for your kernel.
Upon downloading the updates it is best not to reboot your server immediately. It is often advised to wait for low use periods, such as when traffic on your website is low.
Assuming that you have access to the command line, enter the following "at" command on the command line interface, as a root user, then press "Enter" key:
at 3am sunday
After hitting the Enter button, the command prompt will open to ask for input. Type in "reboot" as seen below:
at> reboot
To save the settings, press "CTRL + D".
Now your server will restart at your scheduled time.
It is good to have a server monitoring configuration, in case your dedicated server fails to restart. If you are using a remote server, the time zone may differ from your local computer. To check the time, log in to your server through the SSH console and enter "data" to know the exact time.
The “at” command could be used to schedule any task which you want to run once. To learn more about the “at” command enter “man at” through your command line interface.
