HostX allows video streaming over http (using Apache or LiteSpeed WS).
If you encounter problems playing video files (eg. interruptions), please consider the following suggestions:
- reducing the size of the video files (both the displayed width/height and the size in MB)
- reducing the frame rate of video files to 15 - 20 second
- try different compression solutions
- make 2 different versions of the site, one for those with high speed connections and one for those with lower speed connections
- offer the video files as a direct download
Other aspects to consider:
- Apache is not a server specialized in serving media and cannot offer the performance of specialized software
- HostX cannot control the Internet routes and peers of each ISP
- HostX cannot control the connection of each user individually
- The bandwidth allocated to a server is shared by all users of that server; therefore we cannot guarantee individual access to a certain bandwidth constantly.
If you have not been able to optimize your video files or if this is not possible, we recommend that you opt in for a VPS. It can be configured according to your specific requirements, including the installation of specialized streaming software.
