The IDLE (IMAP Push) function is used by most email clients. It is based on the principle that each email client must maintain an open process on the server so that when an email is received, the customer is notified immediately. There may be situations where the email client continues to open processes, reaching up to hundreds or thousands of processes.

To disable the IDLE function, we recommend that you follow the steps below:

Mozilla Thunderbird:

Tools -> Account Settings -> Server Settings -> Advanced  -> Uncheck "Use IDLE command if the server supports it".

MacMail:

  • go to the Preferences menu
  • click Accounts
  • choose the IMAP account from the list on the left
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • disable "Use Idle"

Microsoft Outlook 2010:

  • Send / Receive> Send/Receive Groups> Defines Send / Receive Groups
  • For each group, uncheck "Schedule an automatic send/receive every x minutes"
  • Close

Android Mail:

  • Select the desired email account
  • Menu | More | Settings | Send & Receive
  • Select "Set download frequency"
  • Change "Peak times" and "Off-peak times" to "manual".
