- make sure you are using the latest version of WordPress
- install an antiSPAM plugin (eg WordPress ReCaptcha plugin - https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-recaptcha/) After installing the plugin you will be asked for a public and a private key that you can get at https://www.google.com/recaptcha/whyrecaptcha
- WordPress already includes an antiSPAM solution - Akismet. To use Akismet you need a key that you can obtain by registering on the wordpress.com site.
- you can block access to certain IPs that are registered as a source of SPAM using the "Project Honey Pot" plugin (https://www.projecthoneypot.org/)
Activating Akismet involves the following steps:
- access the administration section >> Plugins >> Installed
- click Activate next to the Akismet plugin
- click "enter your WordPress.com API key"
- enter the key
- click "Update Options"
