Plugins are extensions that offer additional functionality in WordPress.

Installing a plugin is simple: copy the file to the "wp-content/plugins" folder. After installing the plugin you can activate it from Admin >> Plugins

Alternatively, you can install a plugin directly from Admin >> Plugins >> Add new. Click the Browse button and select the archive with the plugin. Click Install Now.
