Although each situation is different, in general an account/website is hacked for reasons such as:
- to send SPAM
- to install viruses or other forms of malware that will spread on the computers of your website visitors/websites
- to install copies of known websites and use them for private data capture (phishing)
- to cause financial loss to a company
- for no particular reason, just because it's possible
