Yellowdog Updater, Modified (YUM) is an open source utility for Linux Red Hat, CentOS and CloudLinux distributions used to install/update software packages directly from the Internet.

Automatic updates in yum are very easy to schedule, simply by editing the yum updates configuration file.

To activate automatic yum updates, we recommend that you follow the instructions below.

Run the following command:

# nano /etc/yum/yum-updatesd.conf

Find the below line in the configuration file:

do_update = no

and replace it with:

do_update = yes

Save the file and exit the editor. The changes will take effect after you restart the "yum-updatesd" service. Run the following command:

# /etc/init.d/yum-updatesd restart
