How to reset the password for SmarterMail?

In case you forgot/lost the administration password for SmarterMail, you can set another one by following the steps below:

1. Log in to your server
2.  Go to Start >> Administrative Tools >> Services
3. Locate the SmaterMail service and stop this service - click on Stop

Open MyComputer and navigate to C:\Program Files(X86)\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service
- make a copy / backup to the MailConfig.xml file
- open MailConfig.xml with a Notepad editor
- identify the lines below, delete them from the file and save

- go to Start >> Administrative Tools >> Services
- identify the SmarterMail service and click on Start

Last step:
- log in to the Webmail interface
- enter the default admin user and password
- after logging in, make sure you reset the admin password to prevent access by unauthorized users.
