There are situations when some users are running unwanted or malicious applications on cPanel servers. To prevent users from running such applications you can configure WHM to close (kill) certain types of processes running in the background.
If any user executes such a process, WHM will automatically detect it and kill the process (even if the process has a different name).
To configure WHM to kill background processes we recommend the following steps:
- Log in to WHM as a root user
- Access the System Health option
- Select the "Background Process Killer" option. Check all the programs listed, as many of them are Internet Relay Chat (IRC) related and often lead to DDoS attacks.
- If you want to add exceptions, you can add them in the box, one in line. By default, WHM ignores root, mysql, named, cpanel, and users with UID (user identifier) below 99 (not to be added to exceptions).
- After you have added the desired exceptions, SAVE to configure the task in WHM.
